I am Vivienne Nonis and I am a foodie.


I got out of diapers on an island off the coast of Borneo.

I got out of high school in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

I got out of university in Singapore.

I got out of nursing in Melbourne, Australia.

I now live in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.



I have enjoyed food my entire life, from the home-cooked treats Mummsies made for us as kids, through to the cheap hawker foods in KL and Singapore, cooked fresh right in front of you off the back of a cart, as well as fine dining in world class restaurants in Singapore, Melbourne, Paris and Amsterdam.


At age 21, just having completed a 3 year sponsored Nursing diploma, I wrote a letter to Jamie Oliver asking for a job; I knew what I wanted to do ~ I wanted to cook. Of course, I never actually sent that letter, instead I spent the next 7 years working in Singapore, then moved for the final 4 years of my nursing career to the Cardiothoracic ward of the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia.


Then I met R and within 9 months we had left our homes in Melbourne and relocated to Amsterdam.  It was time for me to take a break from Nursing.


It has taken a while, but now here I will formally embark on my new journey and devote my time to honing my skills in the kitchen. I am mad about kitchen tools and gadgets, but what really sends me over the edge are cake decorations. I never used to bake but these days my confidence has grown by leaps and bounds.


With this blog, I aim to document my journey, while showcasing my abilities as a “home-chef” and as a means to keep in touch with my loyal friends who have supported my passion and experimentation over the years. Many people out there have very artistic blogs that feature their very creative food creations ~ but me, I am sticking to the classics. I believe in doing something simple, but doing it well.


I think the biggest lesson for me would be learning patience … I don’t have a lot of that.


The sky is the limit and someday in the future, maybe you’ll be ordering your tasty treats from a bakery run by me (wherever that may end up being). So, welcome onboard, pull up a chair and let me know how you find my blog.  Make sure that if you see something you like (and you will!) that you give it a try.  And when you give it a try, let me know!   • My mother’s Fruit & Jelly Trifle
  • Roast Leg of Lamb with all the trimmings
  • CUSTARD!!!

As of May 2015, I have once again moved countries. I now live in Dublin, Ireland and I have gone back to my old job, nursing once again at a local healthcare facility. Upon some reflection, I realize the past 15 yrs of my life has been one big immigration process … and I hope Ireland will be the last stop for me.

    I’m so glad I found you, Vivienne! I was searching for an Australian Lamb Pie recipe and am trying yours tomorrow. We fell in love with Aussie pies on our first trip “Down Under.” I look forward to more of your recipes. I’m a foodie too . . . and love Alton Brown!
