Here is a wonderful homemade cranberry sauce that is NOT fresh from the tin. This is super easy and super delicious … great with poultry of any kind, or serve it on buttery toast for a special Christmas day brunch. In my case, I served it up with chicken balls for Super Bowl weekend.

Breakfast Delights : Homemade Bircher müesli
When I was travelling around Switzerland, almost every hotel we stayed at served fresh Bircher müesli at breakfast … and it was delicious! This year I hope to routinely make healthier choices in my daily life so I am going to start here, with the most important meal of the day.

Soothing Masala Chai
Tea; as restorative and as uplifting to ones spirit as any ‘ol bowl of chicken noodle soup on a cold, rainy day. However, on a reeeeallly dreary day (like today) I like to take it up a notch. One word comes to mind : Chai.

Apple, Pear and Black Cherry Crumble
Stewed fruit topped with buttery crumble makes for a very satisfying end to a meal. I went for a wintery flavour by making this crumble with a combination of sweet juicey dessert pears, tart apples and dark cherries. Served warm along with vanilla custard, this dessert is perfect on a chilly night.

Donuts à la Fabio Viviani : The Sexy Italian Kind
Another great recipe to have on-hand when you have leftover mashed potato sitting in the fridge after that weekend dinner party. Fabio Viviani’s recipe for hole-less Italian donuts are really good; sooooo soft and fluffy on the inside, it’s like breaking open a cloud.

Eve’s Apple Bake with Vanilla Custard
More spiced up desserts for the cold months ahead. Today I give you a simple homey pudding of spiced apples and vanilla sponge called an Eve’s Apple Bake. It’s one of the first puddings I have ever made from scratch because it is so easy to do … although I still managed to screw it up (I was THAT bad at baking). Served with ice-cream or vanilla custard, this dessert will be 100% gratifying.

Spiced Baby Bundts with Butterscotch Glaze.
Beautiful baby bundt cakes with all the spicey flavours associated with the festive season. In Holland spiced cookies called ‘Speculaas’ and ‘Kruidnoten’ are traditional for this time of year, so I thought how about some spiced cakes as well to add to the mix. These are then glazed with a creamy butterscotch glaze and given a light dusting with cinnamon sugar. Brilliant!

Pomegranate & Rosewater Marscapone Creams
When I think of pomegranates it conjures up images of exotic Central Asian cities like Istanbul and Marrakesh. Silks, saffron and the souq (large open-air markets) are also what I think of. I hope to capture some of that exoticness in this simple and delicate dessert, bringing a bit of spice and a bit of sweetness with every spoonful.

Tango Mango Passionfruit Cheesecake
Todays no-bake cheesecake recipe was kinda made up in my head. It’s a rather tropical variety … which is a bit weird given the time of year … but I had to get it out of my head and onto my blog, so here it is ~ Tango Mango Passionfruit Cheesecake. R loves passionfruit so this one is for him.
