Alpine Tour on the Glacier Express, Switzerland.

For Valentine’s Day this year R took me to Switzerland and we spent the day touring the Swiss alps on the world renowned Glacier Express, ending up in St Moritz mountain ski resort. For train enthusiasts, this rail journey is definitely worth the price tag ~ the views are some of the most stunning I have ever seen in my life!!

My Mediterranean Affair

So my sister comes for a 2 week visit, all the way from Shanghai, and the initial plan was to rent a car to take her round the Netherlands visiting all the wonderful sights and sounds. I even made her a Google Map complete with markers no less! But one night over an Italian dinner spread it was decided we were scrapping the Netherlands grand tour (excuse me??) and heading down to the Med coast instead. So we hopped into our rental the very next morning and headed south.

Switzerland : Lausanne

Spent six wonderful days in Lausanne and put up in a rented apartment just across the road from the station. And using Lausanne as a base we toured the surrounding areas along Lake Geneva : Montreux – Territet – Villenueve, and even made it into France for a day trip. Took in the sights of Gruyeres and visited the famous Gruyeres cheese factory to see how their famous cheese is produced.

Switzerland : Arrival in Geneva.

So here we are in Geneva, en route to Lausanne to see my dear friend Kerry Anne. A very cold day in Geneva with a bit of snow. Missing Doopey, my Bernese Mountain Dog, already. R’s feet started freezing over, coz he refused to buy snow boots before travelling and we were rather rudely introduced to the very expensive Swiss way of life in a very short time. Bienvenue en Suisse!

Trains, trains and more trains : 15 Days in Switzerland with a splash of Italy.

R takes me on a fifteen day trip around Switzerland as a Valentine’s Day gift. We will be starting in Geneva, then on to Lausanne. Valentine’s Day proper will be spent on a magical 7.5 hr train ride thru the Swiss alps from Brig to St Moritz via the Glacier Express ~ worlds slowest express rail service. A quick dip over the border into Italy, then back up into Switzerland we come, finishing off in Luzern.

Essential Snack-a-Doodums : What To Eat When In Amsterdam.

Everytime someone informs me they are coming up to my neck of the woods, the inevitable question soon ensues ~ “What do you recommend we eat when we get there?” And everytime I find myself writing the same email over and over. So I decided to compile it all in one post and hopefully next time someone asks me what to eat in Amsterdam I can simply send them a link.

A Country Christmas Fair : Kasteel de Haar, Haarzuilens.

Today R and I headed to Utrecht to check out a Christmas market held on the private property of a wealthy family. Said property boasts ample manicured lawns, a formal garden, ponds, avenues, a chapel and its very own castle with a moat around it. The picture of the castle in the advertisement brochure did not do it justice one bit. If ever you are in the Netherlands then you must put Kasteel de Haar on your MUST SEE list, believe me.

Help!! There isn’t any food in the house!

What to do in the event that your pantry only has a can of tuna and your fridge has a leftover bowl of potatoes. You improvise and draw on past experienes, then get down to it. Got this brilliant idea when I was in the South Pacific island of Vanuatu.
