Smoked Salmon Mousse in Pâte à Choux.

On the Easter weekend R and I are having a couple of friends over for dinner. As part of the dinner menu I have decided to serve a cold platter ensamble of four, as part of the appetizers. Here we have the first of the four ~ Smoked Salmon Mousse in choux pastry cases.

Mid-week Meals : Cheesy Tuna Bake

Mid-week meals are the hardest to think up, in my opinion. And sometimes when you are just cooking for two it becomes an even bigger challenge. So it’s handy when you have easy comfort food recipes which you can fall back on in times like these. And this dish is so yummy, I could eat it every week and I will not get bored.

Savoury Cornbread

Taking a walk down the south side again this week with Savoury Cornbread. Bought some cornmeal for the first time in my life and I instantly had a vision of baking yummy cornbread. The cornmeal was initially bought to dust the surface of my benchtop for making ciabatta … but why have ciabatta, with all the waiting, when you can have instant gratification with this hearty dish instead! Add your favourite herbs and spices to liven up the dish to your liking.

Custard Cream Puffs.

My age old nemesis ~ Cream Puffs! I tried making these many years ago but they failed miserably but now I have a standmixer. Haha! But somehow this recipe is hell bent on defeating me. Here is my report.

To Market, To Market, To Buy Me Some Plates.

Visited the NDSM flea market that is held once a month down at the old dry ship building docks of Amsterdam. Picked up some pretty little things at very cheap prices. Flea markets are the best!

Switzerland : Lausanne

Spent six wonderful days in Lausanne and put up in a rented apartment just across the road from the station. And using Lausanne as a base we toured the surrounding areas along Lake Geneva : Montreux – Territet – Villenueve, and even made it into France for a day trip. Took in the sights of Gruyeres and visited the famous Gruyeres cheese factory to see how their famous cheese is produced.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cupcakes.

I love chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Can’t get enough of it. Then one day while browsing the internet I came across this recipe for cookie dough CUPCAKES! Had to try it and they turned out delish. These would be great for a birthday party, seriously. Word of caution tho : These are in no way low in calories.

Switzerland : Arrival in Geneva.

So here we are in Geneva, en route to Lausanne to see my dear friend Kerry Anne. A very cold day in Geneva with a bit of snow. Missing Doopey, my Bernese Mountain Dog, already. R’s feet started freezing over, coz he refused to buy snow boots before travelling and we were rather rudely introduced to the very expensive Swiss way of life in a very short time. Bienvenue en Suisse!

Trains, trains and more trains : 15 Days in Switzerland with a splash of Italy.

R takes me on a fifteen day trip around Switzerland as a Valentine’s Day gift. We will be starting in Geneva, then on to Lausanne. Valentine’s Day proper will be spent on a magical 7.5 hr train ride thru the Swiss alps from Brig to St Moritz via the Glacier Express ~ worlds slowest express rail service. A quick dip over the border into Italy, then back up into Switzerland we come, finishing off in Luzern.

Coffee & Cinnamon Scrolls

Greetings one and all and welcome back to FoodFlurries.com 2012!! To kick off my first blog entry of the year, allow me to present Coffee & Cinnamon Scrolls, an all time Aussie favourite that can be found in almost any Aussie bakery or cafe. Prefect for a decadent breakfast or brunch. This is my first attempt at working with yeast dough. Bit of a hiccup in the beginning but in the end I prevailed!!
